Manchester United’s Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has struggled since leaving Juventus, according to a former England international.

Former Netherlands defender Ruud Krol believes Matthijs de Ligt has struggled since the 25-year-old left Juventus in the summer of 2022 to join Manchester United, according to Tuttomercatoweb on Saturday. 

De Ligt broke through at Ajax before being snapp up by Juventus for a staggering €75m in the summer of 2019. He then moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022 before being snapp up by the Red Devils this summer.

After breaking through at Ajax, he chose the Bianconeri as the ideal next step in his career and enjoyed a successful spell at the club.

Following Max Allegri’s return, he was consider one of the best centre-backs in Europe, but he decide to move to Bayern when he felt the need for a change.

Since joining United, it seems unlikely that De Ligt will ever reach the level he achieved during his time at Juve.

From Kroll’s perspective, former Netherlands defender De Ligt’s spell at Juventus was the best of his career, but the 25-year-old centre-back has struggled to make an impact since moving to Bayern Munich and now United.

‘Juventus bought him from Holland, then Bayern Munich and then Manchester. He did much better than he did at Juve. He can improve. At Juventus with (Max) Allegri he did very well. He was perfect in marking, in positioning on the pitch. He is one of the UFABET strongest players in Italy,’ Krol said.
